My December hexies

This is my last update from 2014, and as I had a bad sewing machine, I did more hexies than I planned. In December I joined 200 hexies to my La Passion, and here you can see all the 3100 hexies. This is coming along well, but I still have a long way to go. On by blog you can follow every hundred backwards. You can find the pattern by Grit here.

On the other hand, I didn't do much on the mini La Passion. But I'm happy to do progress, even though it's little progress.

My half hexies grew with six blocks each, as usual.

And the pile of stars is growing with two stars every month.

New Blog Site

I am in the process of moving the blog to WordPress. All the posts up through the one before this have been exported from here to there. The new site can be found at Hexagon Alley. Same name, same posts, working on getting everyone invited to be a blog author.

Please do NOT post any more posts on this blog because I don't know how to transfer just a few of them. I hope to have everyone transferred as an author by the end of Monday. I know it will be a change for some of you, but if you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I've been using WordPress blogs for years, and they are so much easier in some ways.

To put a picture in the post, click Add Media. A screen comes up where you simply drag the picture file over and drop it. Then when it shows up with a little check on it, scroll down the right bar to find the position an size choices. Click insert when you have made your choices.

There are two options available, I believe. If a blue background comes up on your posts, you are in the new wordpress. You can click in the side bar on Classic Wordpress and go to the older system. There are advantages and disadvantages to each one, so play around with them and see which you like best. I don't know when classic might go away. They aren't making noises yet about deleting it and forcing everyone to the new way.

If you do not have a wordpress username, they will send you directions for making one and getting signed in. If you have problems, let me know. If you don't want to contribute any longer, simply don't answer the e-mail.

We don't have a blog button, there are no linky pages involved, but there is one blog page for the Studio Organizing Challege spearheaded by Shelly at Prairie Moon Quilts. She's the one who sponsors the 350 Block Challenge, too.

Each Thursday, Shelly will post an organizing task for the next week. There's nothing to sign up for, you report only if you feel like leaving a comment. That's pretty laid back.

The first one has all the details about the challenge and this week's specific goal. The goal is to Organize your oldest UFO. At first, I thought I'd have to go through all of them and think about which is oldest. Then I realized that of the ones I have with me here in Tennessee, the oldest one is my original hexagon quilt.

I started this the summer of 1987, I think. I was on a trip with my older sister and we stopped at a quilt shop in small town, New Mexico on the way home. I remember buying a fabric that had small cows on it there, and that's in the quilt. I had already started a flower or two before our drive across Texas from El Paso almost all the way to Louisiana. She was going to a conference on drug addicted babies and children. It was an interesting trip.

I worked on it periodically during the five years Paul and I traveled the country. I picked it up again a couple of years ago for a little while. Here's where I left it in 2013:

For the challenge, we don't have to finish it. We just have to organize it - or give it away, or whatever we'd like to do with it. If we're going to finish it, we need to get all the pieces we have together, and fine what else we need in order to finish.

So there, I know where everything is. I have all the pieces in one place. It's my oldest UFO other than my bicentennial quilt, and that I don't have with me, and may never see again. Too bad, it was a good plan and it's in a box of 1970s fabrics I bought to use. The kind Keepsake was selling a couple of years ago as repros!

Anyway, I think I've met that goal! Now what to do about it? I decided that I can meet my goal of working on hexagons this year AND my goal to finish this into a table runner or wall hanging or something semi-useful by working on it every UFO weekend until it's finished. So that's the plan.

I'm still here

I am sorry I haven't been posting/checking in, but I have been diligently plugging away at making hexies. I am ready to start working on flowers again. I love how hexies are so flexible, a little here, a little there, it is all good.

Took a Break

It has been awhile since I last posted.  I haven't made any hexies for a  few months.  I had been making hexies almost non stop for over a year.  I am now ready to make some more headway on my project.  Looking forward to seeing what we will accomplish this next year.

Travelling Hexies

I haven't posted in a while because I am in the process of moving.  And by process I mean I am living with my in-laws until my townhouse is ready!!

Anyway that's another story...

I am still working on my flower hexies.  These are 3 I have completed in the car on holiday road trips.   (I even took the picture in the car - on the dashboard!) I will update later how many blocks I actually have done when I unpack my house after Jan 30.

I still love EPP...even if I haven't posted.

Comment Boxes

Kathy's comment on my last post brings up another issue. Commenting boxes. What solves one problem creates another one. There are a lot of people can NOT comment on the embedded boxes. People on IE often have problems, those who are not on blogspot can't always comment on embedded boxes. There are others who have trouble with it, too. The pop-up boxes and the second page boxes don't seem to cause anyone problems.

We aren't having a problem. There is verification there, and it seems to change every few days, which I did not ask for, but it doesn't cause any harm, only annoyance. So far as I know, anyone can comment on the blog, except anonymous.

In other news, this first Millefiore paper-pieces pack is up in preparation for the release of the first block. This is so beautiful, and I am SO tempted!

Comment Verification

Just so you know, I didn't add comment verification. In fact, my settings say no verification and no moderation for those who sign in with any kind of system - only anonymous is not allowed. I have changed the settings, signed out, come back and put them back to no, no, no, and it STILL will not take it off.

I'm thinking of moving the blog to wordpress, where all my other blogs are. This is the last one that's still on blogspot, and it annoys me.

I don't know whose these are. I only get a picture, and not a source, but aren't they amazing?

MISSING --BUT STILL IN ACTION

I know it doesn't look like much....but finding some black low value darkish patterned fabric took some time...Monet's City  is now on my Design Wall ( as Sleigh Bells Ring is layered on my dining room table ready for pin basting).

this fabric just arrived and I have been cutting hexies to fill in along my older black prints......trying this and that and unsewing and resewing and 

well, you get the picture!

The French Writing hexies should fit in right off the top black spaces to be surrounded by water lily rosettes....

I had a bit of William Morris Revisited from a charm Pack and am planning on rosettes coming off this line and at corners also to spread it out ... like:

this-- and on the two opposing sides----- the long strips of French Writing ...

 A whole lot of basting going on here and...............

here and another box full too....so I have been working slowly but steadily toward what I hope will work to surround the inner city....this is a real puzzle for sure!  The only new fabric not in my stash is the one above--all else is Stashmania!! LOL

P.S.  i would love to do that Milleflora Hexalong--but am still enmeshed in my Inner City--just so many hexagons I can sew at a time and keep straight--sort of...haha)

2015 BOM for Hexagon Lovers

Directions for the start of the 2015 Katja Marek Millefiore Quilt Along are in the .pdf link. This is going to be one awesome quilt! You do need the book The New Hexagon by Marek, but some blocks in the QAL will be different. Paper Pieces is making up packets of the proper pieces about a month before each section comes up. I'd like to see it, if any of you join this QAL.

This is NOT your Grandmother's Flower Garden! LOL Think more of taking those rosettes and putting them in a kaleidoscope to see what happens to them! She does show a layout in the .pdf guidelines that gives an idea of the separations of rosettes. If you look at the paper pieces, though, you see that each hexagon in the guidelines is probably a rosette of some kind all by itself, such as the ones to the left here.

Back From the Territories!!!

Hey all you Hexies!!!  Where have I been?  Well I have NOT been blogging.  I'm a bad bad bad Blogger!!  But well, it's my intention to do better.  So far, I continue making my "petals" but then I went to the Houston Quilt Show and bought this book.   It helped me find my stride and I've taken time away from "petal" production to begin to bring things together.....

That last diamond I think is NOT going in - the one that's all Reproduction fabrics - I have a bit of a collection of Reproduction Fabrics so I think I'll save that diamond for another project....It just doesn't meld with the others and I have so many other fabric choices that I think will do better in the mix.

Now I do really really hope that I'll get my Hexie Posting back on track.

Oh yes, I think here is a good place to wish everyone "Merry Christmas" and "Happy Holidays"....hope y'all enjoy!!!!

November Catch Up

A bit late but was terribly busy last month. Here are the flowers I managed to make as of 12/4:

 Winter will find me more in the living room keeping warm so I should get a few more done. Also, my Mom is having surgery, so there will be a lot of wait time to fill in there also.  And on other hexie news, I was kept busy finishing :

My November hexies

Here is my November report, and I'm so happy to have finished part 1 on my mini La Passion.

The other La Passion has got 2900 hexies already. Please visit Grit to find the pattern. It's always possible to join the fun.

My pile of stars is growing, and these are numer 19 and 20.

Then I have the two different half hexagon projects. They are slowly growing, six blocks every month. That way I won't get bored and put them in a plastic bag.

ON THE EDGE IN HEXAGONIA

I've spent the week since last we chatted (lol), figuring out how to fill in my edges in  and with what fabrics.  Finally--ta-da--I saw the Light (house...hahaha). (DH collects them...)

On this side and its opposite I filled in with black/tan prints--can you see them????
 so that the serrated edge is even....
AND

On this side in front  I used this field of flowers print that I found (rather ransacked) out of  my stash...they are only pinned as I am in the process of sewing them all in after cutting and papering them--four sides each--takes a while and I don't want to turn them the wrong way either...(so, lots of "ouch!" being heard as I get pricked while sewing.  )Keeps me awake in the evenings when I sew...

and here is something really pretty:  my two Christmas Cacti --both in the same pot getting ready to put on their show--a bit early--but it's been SO GREY here that I am happy to see that color blazing.

Last evening my DH retired early as he has thrown his back out moving our ride-on lawn mower into its winter resting place--and I went into my room and cut more freezer papers and ironed them onto more blue lagoon batik hexies to add somehow...this is really all so "by the seat of my pants" sewing.  BUT I am so enjoying it. ;--))))
