Hexi garland - made a couple : )

Susan posted a link earlier, to a really nice Christmas hexi garland tutorial, so I gave it a go.
I made one garland like the tutorial suggested but then one using paper hexi shapes and left the papers in, since its unlikely to ever need washing -

http://hexagonalley.blogspot.co.uk/2014/11/great-hexagon-garland-tutorial.html

I also made up a matching Christmas fabric, log cabin, scrappy banner to hang across a pelmet of sorts.

Not long now till Christmas - arghhhh!!

Stalked by hexis ~

I've been side tracked from making hexis -
and it seems as if I might be meant to get back to making them lol
Yes, that's what it is - who knew you could get them hexified !

Hexagons!

I've been on a couple of coach trips and took my little suitcase with hexis to stitch during the journeys and made quite a lot,
 but guess what?
There were other hexis to see ~

in Warwick Castle for example ( she's wax by the way lol)

and the lady in Warwick's The Quilters Den shop was making this dolphin in 3/8" hexis

and look at this for a ceiling !

thought a few non textile hexis might give you a smile just by way of a change  : )

Hexi kit

I picked up these cute little suitcases at 'The Works' last week,
one set of 3 for £6 or 2 sets for £10!
So cute - and so cute, I had to buy them lol
Tomorrow I'm off on an overnight coach trip and want to take some hexis to stitch whilst sat during the journey and I reckon the smallest sized case should be just right!
Although this pic is the middle sized case having said that!

July Hexi BOM ~

Not much hexi-ing done this month since I've been making up 3 of my 'Dream Trees' for someone, like this one below - the other two are on my current blog post if your interested in looking.
There's an owl hiding in this one, a hedgehog, butterfly and some subtly hidden turquoise gems in the other two.

Anyway having called a halt to work on these trees, the penny dropped it was Julys month end and I hadn't started on my hexi BOM!
So a frantic hexi session and this is the result, crappy pic sorry!

Mine is a vanilla and fudge '99' cornet.
All that means is that it has a Cadbury's chocolate flake stuck in it : )
I'm stitching my blocks onto white on white fabric, so had to have vanilla and fudge ice cream.
It might have been strawberry and vanilla if I could have found some suitable pink fabric in my stash, but time was of the essence lol

My missing hexi cover is found!!

Last year I started a hexi top using scraps in vague colour waves, after being inspired by Michele's finished hexi cover here -

http://www.michelemademe.com/2012/10/hexagon-quilt-top-check.html

However I had to pack up to move house and all my belongings had to go into storage for about 3 months.
Once I moved in to my current haven, I unpacked and stashed my crafting gear in the loft, under my bed and in a weird triangular storage area in my bedroom.
But not a sign of the scrappy hexi cover was found.
I've since scavenged through boxes and containers several times and had almost convinced myself that I'd accidentally donated it some place.
But today, looking for my heat guns I found this box, which I thought was choc full of family photos ~

 BUT OH HAPPY DANCE !!

I now have 3 hexi covers on the go -
should keep me out of trouble at least!

Now isn't there a June hexi BOM due out about now for me to get stuck into too?

Sideways on hexis?

This is my latest hexi shape I've been stitching.
I can't take credit for the shape, I saw it on Pinterest somewhere and quite fancied the idea of making several to go on my bed cover,
perhaps to run around the sides.
Of course now I have to make the little diamonds to fit in the centres of course or I may just applique them onto edgings.
Since my cover design isn't fixed, I will make a few until design inspiration strikes ~

Oh and if your interested in vintage sail making tools and really, who wouldn't be lol - nip across to my blog and see the natty gadget I was given.
Oh yes and the twee little sewing box too!
Happy Hexing folks : )

May Hexi BOM Flutterby

Of course I've added a bit extra you may notice!
Those two half hexis at either side, weren't in the original pattern,
but somehow, that blue fabric cried out for a little less hexi shape on the lower wings lol
My blocks are all going onto white on white backing, so that's why flutterby's antennae are on a white hexi.
Anyway that's my May block of the month, and given that I've felt so crap, I'm amazed I managed to complete it at all so it will have to do : )
lol

Whoop Whoop I've found my way in!

Many thanks to Susan for opening the door here and letting me in for a chat ~

Below is my April Hexi BOM 2014 and the good news is,
that it's almost May and the next months block should be
released shortly!  yeahhh!

I haven't chatted on here before, so maybe I should introduce myself.
My names Lyn and my day job is to devise and make tactile educational resources for visually impaired children.
I have always been creatively inclined and the job I have allows me to use most of the skills I have picked up, so I'm lucky I know.
I make everything from brailled, tactile reading books, 3D models, pre school toys to Topic Boxes - sheer hell as you can imagine lol

On the basis that professional therapy is blummin' expensive,
I thankfully, manage my therapeutic needs by being creatively busy
 - well okay,
the evening ( 'sundowners' ) gin and tonics help a bit too!

I contracted hexi-itus early last year after seeing SO many wonderful hexi quilts online and at shows.
It struck me down with a vengeance and now I leer at dresses that walk past me, thinking if I could get my hands on the fabric,
what fabulous hexis I could make from it them!
I dare say that's one of the symptoms right?
Gosh I hope so, otherwise it might mean I'm going crazy!!

I began making a quilt in scrappy hexis, 42 across the width and got about 3' done and then packed up to move house.
Now I'm happily in the new home -
I have absolutely NO IDEA where that hexi UFO is!
Realistically it should be here somewhere,
but I haven't been able to find it,
so I have had to start over again with a new design.

I have started at the centre this time, not sure if that's the best way to do it, but I'm not following a pattern as such, so will see where it takes me.
I'm using batiks and white on white pathways, here's a few more

I am using some of the hexi soupcon shapes that I saw on Karen's blog
Fairies and Fibres, for the top of the bed area at least.
But I hope to let the fabrics I use suggest to me, what to do next.
Here's a few more ~

I will nip back in and update you on how it's going later, but your more than welcome to drop in to see what else I'm involved in making or to see my Jan/Feb/Mar BOMs too at ~

Happy hexing folks : )
